Sunshine Coast Airport’s New Arrivals Area: A Timely Update for Holiday Hosts and Visitors

Sunshine Coast Airport opened its new arrivals precinct and baggage claim on 7 October 2026, marking a completed stage of its wider terminal redevelopment. For local holiday accommodation owners, this is a useful reminder to review guest arrival information.

What has opened?

The airport says the combined arrivals and baggage claim area is almost three times the size of the former facility, with a 92-metre baggage carousel, new seating areas and new bathrooms.

The wider $170 million terminal project continues, with completion expected in 2027.

That distinction matters. The arrivals opening is a specific milestone; it does not mean every part of the airport redevelopment is finished. Nor does it establish that flights, ground transport or journey times have changed.

For anyone meeting family or friends, use the airport’s current instructions and signs rather than relying on where you parked or waited during a previous visit.

A practical reset for holiday guest guides

Whether your property is in Mudjimba, Mooloolaba, Buddina or Golden Beach, use this news as a prompt to review the arrival section of your welcome guide.

Start with the exact property address and a map pin checked against the actual guest entrance. If a complex has several driveways, explain which one to use. An accurate photograph of the entrance may be more helpful than a lengthy written description.

Next, check the transport advice. Link to current airport information, and ask guests to confirm collection arrangements directly with their hire-car or transfer provider. Avoid promising a fixed driving time: traffic, roadworks and the time of day can make that estimate unreliable.

Make clear when accommodation check-in begins. A flight arriving in the morning does not automatically mean a home is ready for early access. Explain how to request an earlier check-in and confirm it only when the property can be prepared.

Make the final steps easy to follow

Imagine a guest arriving after dark, carrying luggage and reading your message on a phone. Can they find the entrance, identify the correct parking space and understand how to get help?

Keep essential instructions near the top of the message. Separate arrival information from restaurant recommendations and sightseeing ideas. Give guests a reliable contact method and explain what to do if their flight is delayed.

For properties with stairs, narrow entries or other access limitations, provide a clear description before arrival. Encourage guests to discuss particular access needs in advance so expectations match the property. Do not describe a home as accessible without checking the features that matter to that guest.

Review the versions guests actually receive

Editing one welcome document is only part of the job. Check the booking confirmation, automated pre-arrival message, digital guide and any printed instructions. Conflicting directions can create avoidable confusion.

A useful approach is to keep one dated master version and update each channel from it. Test links on a phone and remove references to old meeting points or facilities that have not been checked. Keep door codes and other security details in private guest communications, not in a public blog or social post.

For owners and buyers, keep the perspective local

An airport improvement is relevant to how people experience a destination. It is not evidence that an individual holiday property will earn more, or that surrounding homes will increase in value.

For a property decision, consider the home’s location, condition, operating costs and suitability for your intended use. For guest service, focus on the things you can improve now: accurate information, a well-prepared home and responsive communication.
